20150729_182905We went last Wednesday to the library to get our final sticker in our 1000 books but unfortunately the library had closed early for some event at another location and that’s the only night during the week that they are open late. So we got to go back today with Grandma in tow and get our sticker.  She got her choice of Kindergarten books hut they ended up giving her both because they said (sadly) she’s one of about two kids who are participating in the program at that library.  I rave about this program all the time.   I really believe our reading has helped her vocabulary immensely and she wouldn’t speak nearly as amazingly as she does if we didn’t read so much.  After sticker time Grandma bought us ice cream and food at Dairy Queen to celebrate!!

July 28th, 2015Potty Training

My little is getting so big.  She has finally decided that she’s ready to use the potty.  She hasn’t worn a diaper since last Monday and has successfully been dry ALL DAY at daycare and even over night. She’s had some accidents here and there but usually saves them for at home so we are working on enforcing regular potty breaks even when watching a movie or doing something else fun.  She’s very good at pulling her undies up and down and emptying her little potty into the big potty!!   Mama’s baby is getting sooooo big !!

March 8th, 201415 months

I have really been slacking on this lately… I promise to catch up someday!

This one will be a little different now till I catch back up.

Brookie is sooo smart – I swear she is saying new words every day and everyone at daycare keeps saying how advanced she is. Her newest words that I’ve seen are “Spots” “shoes” “Be nice” (bice) and “Cheese!”. She can point out her nose, mouth, eyes, toes, head and belly and says “Please” in sign language (among other things I’m sure). She’s up to 24.5lbs and 30.5in at her last checkup but didn’t get her shots because she has her first ear infection (almost a double) – thankfully she REALLY likes her bubblegum antibiotic because she is a strong feisty little girl and it’s hard to get her to do anything she doesn’t want to, ESPECIALLY when it comes to medicines! She is a GREAT eater. Can’t really think of a thing she doesn’t like to eat, though of course she always has her moods. Her favorite is whatever we’re eating because she ALWAYS needs a taste. At daycare they said she was the only one who ate the tuna the one day and that she’s pretty much always the last to finish eating and starts eating really fast when she sees them start to clean up some of the other kids like she’s afraid they’re going to take it away from her too. I’ve definitely seen her go to town on some rice lately! I’m glad she’s like this because I’ve always been called a “picky eater” and it’s annoying when people always think I’m too difficult just because I like what I like. Hopefully she won’t ever have to deal with that.

She’s up to about 11 teeth now – has all four fronts on top and bottom and at least one back top on each side and one on the bottom back too. I say at least because it’s hard to see in there and she gets teeth out of nowhere things could have changed! She likes to brush them though she mostly just chews on the toothbrush or eats the yummy toothpaste when I put it on there. She likes to be a part of my morning routine though and even lets me blow dry her hair sometimes (which STILL isn’t really growing much). She’s even gotten pretty good at the potty. She pees and poops on it almost every time we put her on, especially right before her baths. And I swear one day she was even telling me when she needed to go. Had a couple days in a row where she wanted to poop on it every morning and now she’s back to saying “no” and I don’t like to push her or scare her away from it. She LOVES that word no, she just doesn’t use it right since most of the time she says it when she really means yes. She will SAY “yes” if we ask her to but she doesn’t use it but she throws “No” around like it’s her name!

Brookie is truly loved. She has three little boyfriends at daycare and her besties. They literally cheer “book book” when she gets there in the morning and come RUNNING to give her hugs. She looks funny sometimes when she stands there while being hugged, but sometimes she gets a little overwhelmed with it all! I think she was doing a little flirting one morning too because she would push one of her little boyfriends then CRACK UP and runaway!

She’s gotten really sweet at home too. Sometimes she just keeps on giving kisses for no reason. And she’s always more than willing to throw a hug Mew’s way that’s for sure! Lately she’s been trying to do fish lips that I’ve shown her and it’s the cutest thing when she does it, just cracks me up! More like duck face than anything but it’s adorable and funny on a baby! I just love seeing how much she tries when she wants to learn something new. On one of her daycare sheets this week it said they were doing a Simon Says type game to work on their motor skills and that she was trying REALLY hard to jump! I can only imagine how cute that was!! But she’s oh-so-clumbsy so I’m sure that’s gonna be even worse when she masters THAT new skill!

She loves books and already has some favorites we have to hide from her because we have them memorized and she STILL wants to hear them over and over! She’s also been obsessed with putting on shoes, everyone’s shoes! Especially boots which have made for some cute moments! She put one of her own shoes on all by herself the other weekend! Was sooo proud! Another recent obsession has been with her shape block cube. She LOVES to take the circle out and then fit it in the circle hole first try every time and cheers when she does it! She will do this over and over as long as you let her! and sometimes she even does some of the other shapes. Other good ones for her are the rectangle and the smiley face mouth.

Sometimes she will point for her big legos but she only likes to put them back in the container. Even at daycare she will clean up toys and help put them away. And she has play cleaning supplies and makes the sound effects while she helps “wipe up messes” – she sometimes helps out with some real messes that she makes and even has been known to wipe her face when she gets food on it. Speaking of which – she can now feed herself entire bowls of food (sometimes with very little mess depending on the food!) but still likes for us to be on hand to help – or at least just to cheer her on!

This month Bear…

    • Got to have the Sock Monkey most of the day this month-a-versary. She LOVES him. Got to play with him at the park and swing and she was just so happy!

    • Went to her first Pumpkin Patch at Janowski’s with Mom, Dad, Stephanie and her kids. Had fun looking at everything and it was a BEAUTIFUL day.

    • Had a Pittsburgh Stay-Cation for RADical days. Went to the Children’s Museum where she LOVED the waterplay floor (but not so much the blowers to dry off afterwards!) and had a lot of fun at some of the other exhibits like the Ball room and the Monstroscopy exhibit. Stopped by the Giant Duck who she LOVED so much it was hard for her to face us and pay attention for pictures. Then we went to the Science Center and it she had fun especially on the giant Dinosaur outside and looking out the windows overlooking the city.

    • Great Grandpa Kertesz came to visit from Florida and they finally got to meet. She cried most of the time and was super mommy clingy but she warmed up to him a little through some Peek-a-boo and trying to play with the remotes.

    • Went to her buddy Zach’s first birthday party and almost tried to run off with his new Cars riding car. Had a blast playing with a pinwheel as well.

    • Went to Yeck’s Farms on another gorgeous day and was in love with the Ghost Pumpkins and a huge fan of the white signs that had the prices for all the pumpkins. Got lots of super cute pictures (and a little suntan too!)

    • Now up to 4 teefers!! Two on top from before and two new ones on the bottom this month!

    • New fun thing with daddy – brushing his hair with her brush in the morning while he gets her changed and dressed for the day!

    • Really enjoys self feeding in her tiny highchair from Grandma. Absolutely LOVED slurping up Pasta Roni Angel hair and Herbs and making a huge mess of herself pretty much every time she eats!

    • Has started pointing and saying “dis” and “dat” though she points at EVERYTHING so it’s hard to narrow down what she wants.

    • Finally learned to change direction and get around obstacles when she’s walking with walking toys now!

    • Went to Soergel’s but didn’t get to do too many of the activities. She loved the puffs in the gift bag and got to meet a really huge Horse who wanted to (playfully) eat her face! The pumpkin patch was beautiful and even had sunflowers but it was really cold out so we didn’t get the best pictures. (Have to go much earlier next year) She did enjoy trying to eat Pumpkin pieces while Mommy and Jamie P carved pumpkins back at home.

    • Bonding a lot more with daddy lately – Loves to watch sports and clap with him and even mimics him sitting on the couch with his arms behind his head and stuff.

    • She bit a friend at daycare this month :0( in a scuffle over a toy. Tried to bite mommy over a mail scale she was trying to put away at home too.

August 26th, 20139 months!!

This month Bear…

    • went to Living Treasures to see the animals. Goats tried to eat her clothes! LOL
    • went to Idlewild and she LOVED the wavepool! Almost fell asleep in there floating in her life preserver! Rode her first carousel with Daddy and he said she was confused about it moving up and down. We missed Storytime Forest cuz we spent so much time at SoakZone so wecan’t wait to go back next year when she’ll be able to do A LOT more.
    • likes to try and put ALL the puffs in her mouth at the same time. Even the bigger waffle wheel ones! I try and break them up for her to stop her.
    • started “real” crawling instead of her army crawl. But she still would rather be standing and has mastered pulling herself up on just about anything she can get her paws on! She can even cruise a little holding on to the couch!!
    • went camping in the backyard in a tent with mommy and daddy for the first time. She was FACINATED with looking out the windows.
    • has started dancing by rocking with her arms and belly and it’s just about the cutest thing ever!! She especially likes Rockin Robin on her musical push toy but dances to other kid songs and also a little to our music as well!
    • has gotten Binky Envy at daycare
    • finally got her play yard castle at the house now so we have something for her to crawl all over now and she will definitely love it more when she starts walking.
    • got her first “tattoos” (Airbrush!) at the Daycare picnic, even one matching Mommy’s bee on her wrist!
    • went to Hookstown Fair and saw more animals! But didn’t get to ride anything cuz she’s too little :0(
    • tried little bites of ice cream/Rita’s frozen ice but pushes them out like it’s the worst thing ever. We don’t think she likes the coldness of it.

August 8th, 2013Binky Envy

A few weeks ago I saw a binky in my daughter’s locker at daycare with her name written on it in sharpie. It wasn’t the “emergency binky” I sent in for her that they said she never needs but I didn’t want to be “that mom” and say anything. But I think now I’ve finally figured it out!

She’s a binky bandit!! :0(  The past couple mornings I’ve seen her in the act.

Yesterday when her BFF Raylee was absent, Little Aiden came to greet her as I put away her cloth diapers in her locker. She proceeded to grab the binky straight out of his little mouth while he was sucking it! Then he took it back and SHE DID IT AGAIN! Finally he got it back and ran crawled away as fast as he could!

I didn’t really think anything of it, thought it was a onetime occurrence, until it happened again today. This time her and Raylee were taking a book and my keys away from each other back and forth when little Aiden came by. She reached over and knocked that binky right out of his mouth! I returned it and then she went for Raylee’s!

20130808_082733Mommy why did you give it back?!

I snapped her up, started our goodbye snuggles and took her over to sit with the rest of her friends. Sat her down in a free space next to one of the newer babies happily reclining in his boppy pod when Miss Mary Kay held in his binky and exclaimed “I know what you’re gonna do!”

My little lady has binky envy =(
It’s terrible!

May 29th, 20136 month Photo Shoot

I was lucky enough to come in contact with Melissa Prechtl through Moms and More of Robinson, a Meetup Group in our area. She’s an excellent photographer and offered the mom’s in the group an awesome deal on a photo shoot so she can update her portfolio. It took a few months for us to finally figure out a good time to meet up but it was perfect timing as Bear has just turned 6 months!!

We met at an outdoor location of my choosing, Moon Park pond! Missy scouted out the area a few days earlier to get some ideas for perfect placement, especially since we had limited time with perfect lighting as we met up after I got off of work.

I brought a couple outfits but nothing special. She brought LOTS of props! This was our first photo shoot with a professional and I pretty much drew a blank on ideas so we let her take the reigns. She had lots of ideas! First Bear was wearing a cute diaper cover on a colorful rug with a pretty headband. Lots of cute shots there! Then a little boy came over and asked if we could keep it down because his brother has Autism and is sensitive to certain sounds.

Next we switched covers and headbands and posed on a cute turquoise rocking chair that would fit in perfect with her bedroom color scheme! I didn’t get any behind the scenes shots on this one because I was on standby just out of frame to make sure she didn’t fall. It was really cute though cuz Bear was rocking the chair like a pro!

Next we moved to the other side of the pond where there were more trees and it had a more woodsy feel. First we tried to put her in this lovely vintage suitcase but couldn’t get the right balance so we scrapped that idea. Instead she posed inside a large basket with some fur in the bottom for comfort. She was able to sit great and we got some cute shots with her sock monkey!

Next we moved over to the hillside and laid out a blanket. Brought back the suitcase for some really cute poses. My favorite is where she’s reaching out for me out of frame like “mommy don’t go!”.

We also brought back the basket and she laid in there for a few shots. She looked like an angel surrounded by fur!

All in all it was a great shoot and I’m confident the pictures are going to be amazing!! Can’t wait to see them!!!

November 26th, 2012Brooke is here!!

It’s finally happened!!

Sunday night the contractions started but when I went to the hospital, Mom Stephanie and Tess in tow, the nurses said I was only 1 finger tip dilated and sent me home. Steph stayed with me over night to keep an eye out and the contractions kept coming.  By the time I tried to sleep it was everywhere between 9 and 3 minutes apart and NON-STOP. Got NO sleep. Then in the morning things finally started getting consistent. By 10:00 we were back at the hospital with contractions every 3-5 minutes for almost 2 hours! When they checked me I was 3-4 inches so we knew it was go time!!

By 1:09 Brookie was here!!! No epidural but I did get Stadal in my IV and as soon as I did I was in a sleep-like state and nature took over. Stephanie and Mom kept telling me how great I was doing as I powered thru all those contractions and flew thru the dilation… things were just flying by. Dr Saunders came by and broke my water but couldn’t stay for the delivery. Dr Dunphy came to take over and a couple med students watched the whole thing (their first birth!).  My sister arrived just in time for pushing so Stephanie offered to switch out with her and waited in the waiting room. Pushing was HARD. I could tell when I was doing it right but couldn’t figure out how to make myself do that.  Pushed for 40 minutes and she was here! At one point I thought I couldn’t do it anymore and kinda just stopped and the nurses pushed my mom and sister out of the way and took over helping me thru it. I could see mom and Jeanette start crying so I knew they could see her! Had a third degree episiotomy and even broke blood vessels in my face and neck from all that hard work! So as I was getting stitched up after Brookie was cleaned up my mom, sister, AND Grandma all got to hold her before I did! I was definitely getting pissy and impatient about that! But she was here…. and she’s perfect! [more to come…]
